Documentary Study (movie within)

Exploring a season often marked with over indulgence.

First, thank you to everyone who showed up to the Zoom!

Now I want to switch gears and discuss this documentary that I watched a couple of weeks ago that I just could not shake. It connected so many dots when it comes to behavior- and anxiety, fear and coping.

First this weeks trivia!

Trivia: In the song, The Twelve Days of Christmas, how many gifts are given in total? Bonus, how many were food? (Keeping in with this weeks theme)

Answer at the bottom of email.

Documentary Study: "Irresistible" and Its Connections to Addiction, Trauma, and Financial Therapy

I wanted to discuss this documentary as it spans far more than the intended purpose.

The documentary "Irresistible" exposes the food industry's deliberate efforts to create addictive products, utilizing advanced research on human psychology to manipulate cravings and consumption.

This addiction to ultra-processed foods mirrors behaviors often seen in other forms of dependency, such as compulsive shopping or gambling, where individuals use these habits as coping mechanisms for unresolved trauma.

Such behaviors provide temporary relief from emotional pain but often exacerbate financial and emotional struggles.

In financial therapy, identifying these patterns is crucial: both food addiction and financial challenges frequently stem from deeper emotional wounds, like childhood neglect, loss, or unprocessed grief.

Healing requires strategies that address the root causes, incorporating self-awareness, intentional boundaries, and sustainable coping mechanisms. By exploring how industries exploit human vulnerabilities, "Irresistible" invites us to examine our relationships with consumption—be it food or finances—and take steps toward healthier, more conscious living.

There were a total of 364 gifts in the song, The Twelve Days of Christmas. For food related, it depends if you want to add the animals… from the partridge to the eight maids (milking a cow each) you would have a potential of 244 food-related gifts.
